Kite string cuts through armoured scales of crocodile in Vishwamitri river, Vadodara
January 31, 2026
Vadodara: The deadly glass-coated kite string has not just caused enough injuries to humans, it has also cut through the tough-skinned crocodiles of the Vishwamitri river, a news report said.
MS University students recently filmed a crocodile with a kite string embedded deep in its back, cutting through its armoured scales and causing bleeding.
Prof Ranjit Devkar of the university was surprised to see such an injury after he, along with his students, spotted the eight-foot reptile from the cable-stayed bridge during their regular bird walk in Sayajibaug. He warned that an embedded string could cause infection and, in severe cases, even prove fatal. He added that the forest department was informed after the injured reptile disappeared into the river.
The Vishwamitri is home to over 442 crocodiles, mostly in its urban stretch. DeshGujarat
