AMC to appoint agency to capture sick stray dogs
February 01, 2026
Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation’s nuisance control department has floated a tender to hire an agency to capture sick, aggressive, and rabies-affected stray dogs from different parts of the city. The selected agency will also manage stray dogs during VVIP movements. Captured dogs will be sterilised and released back into the areas from where they were picked up, while aggressive or infected dogs will be housed in a shelter.
The agency will be tasked with the care, monitoring, and feeding of dogs kept in shelters. The AMC will provide Rs 200 per captured stray dog and Rs 300 for aggressive or sick dogs. For dog-catching duties during VVIP movements, the payment will be Rs 8,000 per shift. The tender process is likely to be completed within a month.
A survey conducted in 2019 estimated Ahmedabad’s stray dog population at around 2.10 lakh.
