February 04, 2026
Gandhinagar: Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel today chaired a meeting of the state cabinet, during which it was decided that works under the “Sujalam Suphalam Jal Abhiyan” will begin across the state from February itself to complete water conservation and storage efforts before the monsoon. Accordingly, the campaign will begin on February 21, government spokesperson Minister Jitubhai Vaghani said.
The minister said the Gujarat government has been conducting the Sujalam Suphalam Jal Abhiyan every year for the past eight years in coordination with various departments to strengthen water storage infrastructure. This year, the work of deepening ponds and other water bodies will start earlier than usual to ensure maximum storage in case of early rains.
He added that since Holi falls on March 3, the campaign is being advanced to avoid delays caused by workers returning home for the festival. Over the last eight years (2018–2025), the campaign has helped store around 13,994 million cubic feet of water and generated more than 260 lakh man-days of employment, Vaghani said. DeshGujarat
