Amul launches AI assistant ‘Sarlaben’ to support Gujarat dairy farmers
February 11, 2026
Vadodara: Dairy farmers across thousands of villages in Gujarat are set to receive round-the-clock digital support through ‘Sarlaben’, an artificial intelligence-powered assistant being introduced under the newly launched Amul AI platform. The initiative marks a significant technological step for the state’s cooperative dairy network.
Developed by homegrown dairy major Amul, the platform was rolled out today, with a formal launch by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
Amul AI is expected to serve more than 36 lakh milk producers, the majority of them women, across over 18,500 villages in Gujarat. Collectively, these farmers contribute over 350 lakh litres of milk daily, forming the backbone of the cooperative supply chain.
The AI system has been built on one of India’s largest cooperative digital infrastructures. Amul’s IT network processes over 200 crore milk procurement transactions annually, maintains veterinary treatment records for nearly 3 crore cattle handled by more than 1,200 veterinarians, and documents about 70 lakh artificial inseminations each year.
It also integrates fodder production insights derived from ISRO satellite imagery and a comprehensive cattle census conducted every five years across Gujarat. This extensive, verified dataset—accumulated over five decades—forms the training foundation of Amul AI, enabling precise, farmer-specific recommendations.
Linked with Amul’s Automatic Milk Collection System (AMCS) and the Pashudhan application, Sarlaben will provide personalised guidance on cattle health, vaccination schedules, treatment, nutrition, and breeding. The platform will also offer information on government schemes and subsidies for dairy farmers.
“Amul AI is designed to deliver reliable, verified information directly to farmers—instantly and in their preferred language,” said Jayen Mehta, Managing Director of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF).
Farmers will be able to access the service through the Amul Farmer mobile application, already used by more than 10 lakh users, as well as via voice calls for those using feature phones or landlines. Gujarati will be the primary language of interaction. DeshGujarat
