Dwarka: Hindu organisations, saints, and local residents organised a peaceful rally from Rabari Gate to the office of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) at 11 am and submitted a memorandum demanding strict action following the recent seizure of 50 kg of beef in the temple town of Dwarka.
Calling incidents of cow slaughter in a sacred pilgrimage town extremely serious, the protesters sought exemplary punishment to prevent any recurrence. They also urged the administration to immediately enforce the ban on cow slaughter and shut down meat and egg shops operating within the pilgrimage area, warning of intensified agitation if their demands are not met.
According to police, a raid at Rupen Bandar in Devbhumi Dwarka led to the seizure of approximately 50 kg of illegal beef. Local resident Salmaben Iliyas Bhadela and her son, Wasim Iliyas Bhadela, were detained and booked under relevant provisions of the Gujarat Animal Preservation Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Preliminary investigation revealed that the illegal slaughter was allegedly carried out by a man identified as Javed from Khambhaliya, who supplied the meat to the accused for sale. PSI N. S. Gohil is conducting further investigation, while police teams are working to apprehend other suspects.
Dwarka Sharadapeeth Shankaracharya Jagadguru Sadanand Saraswati strongly condemned the incident and demanded the strictest possible action from the government and police. He also called for verification of the legality of the accused’s residence and a detailed examination of their identity and citizenship documents.
Police officials, including DySP Sagar Rathod, stated that the operation was carried out jointly by the Dwarka Police Station team, local police, and the Local Crime Branch (LCB), confirming that three key accused have been arrested so far.
Religious leaders noted that Dwarka and the wider Gujarat region have a long tradition of cow protection, with several gaushalas functioning in and around the area, and described the incident as deeply hurtful to religious sentiments. DeshGujarat
