Surat: A sudden fire broke out in the posh City Light area of the city on Saturday afternoon. The blaze erupted in the under-construction residential complex Roongta Estella near Anuvrat Dwar and quickly intensified, sending thick plumes of black smoke across the surrounding locality.

According to initial reports, the fire spread rapidly and engulfed two buildings. Upon receiving information, multiple fire tenders from the Surat Fire Department rushed to the spot and began firefighting operations.

Several labourers were feared to be inside the building when the fire started, but most were evacuated in time. Firefighters also carried out a swift rescue operation and safely evacuated around 10 occupants. No casualties have been reported so far.

Fire crews initiated dousing operations using water cannons from multiple sides. More than six fire engines from two fire stations were deployed, and the blaze was eventually brought under control after sustained efforts.

Dense smoke spread across the surrounding area during the incident, briefly causing traffic congestion on nearby roads. According to available information, a large quantity of garbage and discarded materials had been lying in the open space behind the newly constructed building.
