Surat: A 70-year-old farmer was killed in a wild boar attack on Thursday afternoon near Bodhan village in Surat district.
The deceased, Gambhirsinh Jadav, was found in a blood-soaked condition on his farm by locals, who initially suspected a leopard attack and alerted the forest department. However, a preliminary postmortem confirmed that the injuries were consistent with a wild boar attack.
Forest officials said there were no bite marks or leopard pugmarks at the scene. The injury pattern mostly below the waist and hoof prints indicated that the animal repeatedly struck Jadav with its tusks and head, causing severe bleeding. The attack is believed to have occurred between 1 pm and 2 pm.
Jadav had gone to irrigate his field, where he planned to cultivate sugarcane. Officials suspect he may have tried to chase away the boar when it attacked him. The farm had no fencing.
The body has been sent for detailed postmortem examination. The forest department will provide ₹10 lakh compensation to the family as per norms. Wild boars are common in South Gujarat and frequently damage crops such as sugarcane and vegetables. DeshGujarat
