Ahmedabad: A 22-year-old man was killed after a dumper truck allegedly rammed into his moped in the Juhapura area of the city early Saturday morning.
The deceased, identified as Mustakim, a resident of Fatewadi, was riding near Royal Akbar Tower in Juhapura when a speeding dumper truck reportedly without number plates hit him from behind.
The impact threw him onto the road, causing severe head and multiple body injuries. He died on the spot.
Following the accident, a large number of local residents gathered at the scene and expressed anger over the movement of heavy vehicles through the densely populated area during restricted hours.
On being informed, the M Division Traffic Police reached the spot and initiated an investigation. The body was sent for post-mortem examination.
During inspection, police found that the dumper did not have number plates affixed either at the front or rear. Locals alleged that despite repeated representations in the past, heavy vehicles continue to pass through the area during no-entry hours, resulting in such fatal incidents.
Police have registered a case against the dumper driver and are probing whether the vehicle had valid permission to enter the city during restricted hours. Further investigation is underway. DeshGujarat
