NH-48 works in Gujarat to finish by Jan 2027; Delhi–Mumbai Expressway by March 2028: Centre

New Delhi: The Central Government has informed the Rajya Sabha that highway projects on key routes connecting Gujarat, including the Mumbai–Ahmedabad (NH-48), Surat–Dahisar corridor, and Rajkot–Ahmedabad–Jetpur stretch, are at different stages of completion, with several works targeted to be finished between 2026 and 2028.

In a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha regarding the deadline for completion of highway works in Gujarat, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said that six-laning work on the Vapi–Surat and Surat–Bharuch sections of NH-48 has already been completed in 2013 and 2011, respectively, and the stretch is currently under maintenance under the Performance-Based Maintenance Contract (PBMC) mode. Construction of 16 bridges, flyovers, and vehicular underpasses on this route is in progress and is expected to be completed by January 2027.

On the Bharuch–Vadodara section of NH-48, six-laning has already been completed, and the road is under PBMC maintenance. Construction of seven bridges, flyovers, and vehicular underpasses is underway and is targeted for completion by December 2026.

The Vadodara–Ahmedabad stretch has already been six-laned and is being maintained under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) mode till 2037, the government said.

The balance work of six-laning on the Shamlaji–Motachiloda section is targeted to be completed by June 2026. On the Rajkot–Jetpur section of NH-27, six-laning work is currently in progress and is likely to be completed by January 2027.

The Centre also stated that the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway project, which will benefit Gujarat connectivity, is under implementation and is targeted for completion by March 2028. DeshGujarat
