Ahmedabad RTO Crackdown on Illegal White LED Lights; Over 1,000 Motorists Fined in 2 Months

Ahmedabad: In view of the rising number of road accidents in the state, the State Transport Commissioner has ordered strict enforcement against vehicles using illegal white LED lights. Following the directive, the Ahmedabad RTO has launched special night drives in coordination with the police and is taking action against violators across the city.

RTO teams are conducting checking drives every night at key locations, including Zundal Circle, SG Highway, Kalupur and Subhash Bridge Circle. Officials said that during the ongoing drive, the amount of fine collected in just over two months is nearly equal to the total penalties imposed during the entire year 2025.

According to RTO data, action has been taken against 1,021 vehicle drivers between January 1 and March 10, with fines exceeding ₹10 lakh recovered for using white LED lights in violation of rules.

In comparison, the RTO had taken action against 1,090 drivers in 2025 and collected around ₹10.90 lakh in penalties, while almost the same amount of fine has already been recovered in just two months and 10 days of 2026, indicating the scale of violations and prompting stricter enforcement this year.

Licence suspension warning for repeat offenders

Ahmedabad RTO officer Nirav Bakshi said a list of repeat offenders has been prepared, and joint checking drives with the police will be intensified in the coming days. If vehicles are found using illegal LED lights again, action will be taken to suspend driving licences. DeshGujarat
