Vadodara: A crocodile measuring around 9 feet in length was spotted inside the campus of Maharaja Sayajirao University in Vadodara on Sunday night. The reptile was seen near an open area close to the university premises, following which the Forest Department was informed.

A rescue team from the Forest Department reached the spot and safely captured the crocodile after a brief operation. The animal was later taken into custody and will be released into the Vishwamitri River as per wildlife safety guidelines.

According to officials, the MS University campus is located near the Vishwamitri River, which has a significant population of crocodiles, and such sightings have been reported earlier as well.

Wildlife rescuer Yash Tadvi said the crocodile was approximately 9 feet long and was rescued jointly by the rescue team and Forest Department staff. He said the animal was safely captured and handed over to the Forest Department for release in its natural habitat.

Officials said the Vishwamitri River currently has a large number of crocodiles, and the species is protected under Schedule-I of wildlife protection laws.
