Fire Outside Aircraft Area at Ahmedabad Airport; Bush Fire Near Surat Runway a Day Earlier

Ahmedabad: A minor fire broke out in a temporary cabin structure outside the aircraft movement area at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPIA) in the city on Sunday afternoon, airport authorities said.

According to officials, the incident was reported at 2:43 pm and was quickly brought under control by the airport’s Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) team. The fire occurred in a temporary cabin located outside the operational zone, and no injuries were reported.

As the fire took place away from the aircraft movement area, all airport activities, including arrivals and departures, continued normally. Officials said the exact cause of the fire is under investigation.

Earlier on Saturday afternoon, a fire was also reported near the outer side of the runway at Surat International Airport after dry bushes caught fire, briefly creating a tense situation. The airport fire team rushed to the spot, but sparks from the burning bushes spread to nearby grass inside the airport premises, causing further concern.

Considering the situation, assistance from the Surat Fire Brigade was sought. Due to dense bushes and a narrow access route, fire tenders initially could not reach the exact spot, and water was sprayed from inside the airport premises to control the flames. After necessary clearance procedures, fire brigade teams were allowed inside the airport area, and the blaze was brought under control after nearly one-and-a-half to two hours of effort.

Fortunately, there was no flight movement at the time, and operations remained unaffected. Officials said the cause of the fire is yet to be determined. DeshGujarat
