Vav-Tharad, Gujarat: Tensions between the Chaudhary and Rabari communities have escalated into violence following an inter-caste love marriage involving Kanku Chaudhary and a Rabari youth from Unn village in North Gujarat.
The issue resurfaced amid ongoing sensitivities after singer Kinjal Rabari’s marriage, reigniting community-level tensions. Rabari community girl Kinjal had, early this month, eloped with her lover from the Chaudhary community, but the Rabari community held meetings with Chaudhary community leaders, and Kinjal was sent back from the Chaudhary family to her Rabari parents, who were against the inter-caste marriage of their daughter.

In this backdrop, Chaudhary community leaders also sought the return of a Chaudhary community girl Kanku Chaudhary who is with a Rabari community youth in Unn village against her parents’ wishes. The issue is bit complicated here as Kanku is reportedly mother of child and her elopement happened about a year ago.
On the demand to bring back Kanku Chaudhary, the Chaudhary community organized a large gathering in Runi village of Bhabhar taluka on Wednesday, attended by several community leaders.
Following the meeting, a group reportedly reached Un village, where Kanku is currently residing. The situation turned violent, with incidents of vandalism and vehicles being attacked with sticks. The situation was brought under control after a police lathi charge.
