Unseasonal Rain, Hailstorm Hit Jamnagar’s Lalpur

Jamnagar: A sudden change in weather triggered thunderstorms and hailstorms across parts of Lalpur taluka in Jamnagar district this afternoon, raising concerns among residents and farmers. Villages including Apia, Babarjar, Tebhada and Khaydi witnessed strong winds accompanied by rain and hail, disrupting normal life.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier forecast unseasonal rainfall across Gujarat between March 18 and 20 due to an active cyclonic circulation system. While the showers are expected to bring temporary relief from the rising heat, they have also heightened anxiety in rural areas.

According to local reports, the sky turned overcast suddenly in several villages, followed by gusty winds and hail in pockets like Babarjar. The unexpected weather has come at a critical time for farmers, as rabi crops such as gram, coriander and cumin are nearing harvest.

Agricultural experts warn that unseasonal rain and moisture could damage crop quality and reduce yields, particularly for sensitive crops like cumin and coriander. In many areas, harvesting is already underway, increasing the risk of financial losses if produce gets soaked.

The IMD has cautioned that similar weather conditions, including thunderstorms and strong winds, may continue in parts of the state over the next two days. DeshGujarat
