Unseasonal Rain, Dust Storms Hit Parts of Gujarat
March 19, 2026
Ahmedabad: A sudden change in weather has been witnessed across Gujarat due to the activation of a Western Disturbance and an upper-air cyclonic circulation over the region. Since the early morning of March 19, dust storms and unseasonal rain have affected several parts of the state, including Ahmedabad.
Strong winds triggered dust storms in Ahmedabad early in the morning, reducing visibility in several areas. Dust plumes were also seen in Gandhinagar, Kalol and surrounding regions, causing inconvenience to motorists and commuters.
Mehsana witnessed storm-like conditions from around 4 am, during which a tree fell on a parked car, causing major damage. In Visnagar, strong winds blew away several shop sheds and hoardings.
Weather conditions changed drastically in Kutch district, where Bhuj, Nakhatrana, Lakhpat and Abdasa received rain accompanied by strong winds. Power supply was disrupted in several areas due to gusty winds.
Unseasonal rain also lashed parts of North Gujarat, including Kankrej, Vav, Deesa and nearby areas. Incidents of solar panels being damaged due to strong winds were also reported. In Patan district, the weather remained cloudy and hazy since early morning.
Farmers have expressed concern over possible damage to standing crops due to the unseasonal rain and strong winds. Crops such as wheat, fennel and cumin are currently in the field, and adverse weather at this stage could lead to significant losses.
Weather forecast for March 19–20
According to the Meteorological Department, light rain accompanied by thunderstorm activity is likely at a few places in several districts of Gujarat today.
On March 20, unseasonal rain is likely in Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Dahod, Mahisagar and Kutch districts.
The maximum temperature across Gujarat is expected to drop by 2–3°C over the next two days, bringing temporary relief from the heat. DeshGujarat
