Dumas Sea Face Declared Litter-Free Zone; Marshals will Fine Litterers On the Spot

Surat: The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has declared the newly inaugurated Dumas Sea Face a ‘Litter-Free Zone’.
Developed under the South West Zone, Dumas Sea Face has quickly emerged as a popular tourist destination. With nearly 10,000 to 15,000 visitors on weekends, the civic body has rolled out an intensive cleanliness and monitoring plan to maintain hygiene standards.
Key Measures Announced by SMC Today
1. Modern Infrastructure and Monitoring
- Dustbin Network: Color-coded bins for wet and dry waste will be installed every 20–30 meters, along with 20–25 movable dustbins.
- CCTV Surveillance: High-definition cameras will monitor the area, with feeds connected to the Athwa Zone and the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC).
2. Strict Rules and Penal Action
- On-the-spot Fines: Tourists or locals caught littering will face immediate penalties.
- Marshals Deployed: Around 25–30 marshals will patrol the area, ensuring compliance and spreading awareness.
- Plastic Ban Enforcement: Banned plastic items will be checked and seized at entry points.
3. Public Awareness and Trader Participation
- Cleanliness messages will be displayed via LED screens and public announcement systems.
- Special “I Support Litter-Free Dumas” selfie points will be set up to encourage public participation.
- Food and beverage vendors must keep dustbins; violations may lead to license cancellation.
4. Public Participation and Zone Responsibility
To strengthen the initiative, different zones will take responsibility for specific areas of Dumas Sea Face during weekends. Regular cleanliness drives and awareness campaigns will be conducted in collaboration with NGOs and students every Saturday and Sunday.
