AMC Fines Beekay Bakers on CG Road After Insects Found in Nankhatai

Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has levied a fine of ₹25,000 on Beekay Bakers on CG Road after a customer allegedly found insects in nankhatai (cookies) purchased from the shop.
Following the complaint, officials from the AMC health department inspected the premises and detected multiple hygiene violations. The civic body issued a notice to the bakery and imposed a penalty of ₹25,000. Food samples, including nankhatai, coconut macaroons, and almond coconut biscuits, were collected from Beekay Bakers and sent for laboratory testing.
Meanwhile, the health department carried out a food safety drive across the city between March 23 and March 26. During the campaign, 229 food establishments were inspected, resulting in 85 notices being issued. A total of 64 TPC (Total Plate Count) tests were conducted to check food quality. During the drive, authorities collected 127 food samples and sent them for laboratory analysis.
These included samples of sugarcane juice (7), milk and milk products (12), bakery products (4), pani puri and masala items (3), namkeen (3), gram flour and wheat flour (5), edible oil (3), spices (15), and 75 samples of other food items.
Officials also seized and destroyed 144 kg of inedible food items and 138 litres of liquids found unfit for consumption. A total penalty of ₹1.78 lakh was recovered from violators. DeshGujarat
