From Villages to Silicon Dreams: PM Modi Interacts with Young Workforce at CG Semi Plant in Sanand

Sanand: During the inauguration of CG Semi’s new OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) plant, considered a key milestone for India’s semiconductor sector, Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with the young employees working there. He listened to and appreciated the stories of youths from various states across the country, particularly those from rural and tribal areas.

Among these employees was Poonam Kumari from the Giridih district of Jharkhand. She shared that after completing her Class 12 education at the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, she pursued an ITI course and was subsequently selected by CG Semi. Following her selection, she was sent to Malaysia for training.

During her interaction with the Prime Minister, Poonam said, “Jai Johar, Sir. My name is Poonam Kumari. I am from the Giridih district of Jharkhand. My family consists of my mother and a sister. Earlier, people in my village used to say that a village girl wouldn’t be able to achieve anything by going away, that she was merely going to pass time. But today, those same people acknowledge that I am truly accomplishing something and standing on my own feet.”

Another young female employee shared her journey, saying she was the first girl from her village to move to another state for employment. She said that there was previously no tradition of sending girls out of the village for education or work, but other girls are now feeling inspired by her success.

She said, “When I visit home, people ask where I work. I tell them I have a job at CG Semi. I have received excellent learning opportunities here. We were even sent to Malaysia for a month to undergo training in semiconductor manufacturing processes and other technical skills. Now, my friends also ask if they can get a job here too.”

Priyanka Dhanwar from West Singhbhum, Jharkhand, also shared that she had the opportunity to receive specialized training in Malaysia. She said, “I also got the chance to go to Malaysia for training. Currently, I am working as an operator, and I really enjoy my job.”

The CG Semi plant is providing employment and technical training to young people from various states across the country. Young professionals from different states, including Kaushal Kumar from Jammu & Kashmir, Satyam Sinha from Bihar, and Shivani V.K. from Madhya Pradesh, are employed here. After receiving training in modern semiconductor manufacturing processes, these employees are becoming part of India’s burgeoning semiconductor industry.

Commending the employees’ achievements, Prime Minister Modi said they are playing a pivotal role in shaping the nation’s technological future. He remarked that the soil of Gujarat has provided them with an opportunity to progress and that their efforts will contribute significantly to making India self-reliant in the semiconductor sector.
