Surat City Lashed by Over 4 Inches Rain in Just 2 Hours as 98 Gujarat Talukas Get Rainfall

Surat: Several districts in the state received significant rainfall from 6 am to 6 pm on Monday (July 6). According to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), the highest rainfall of 112 mm (4.41 inches) was recorded in Surat city. Out of the 4.41 inches, around 4 inches of rain fell in just two hours between 4 pm and 6 pm, leaving the Diamond City waterlogged.

As many as 98 taluks saw light to moderate downpours. Among them, the top areas to receive rain today were Vapi in Valsad district, which recorded 105 mm of rainfall, and Pardi taluka, which saw 104 mm. Khanpur in Mahisagar recorded 98 mm, Kamrej in Surat 84 mm, Sagbara in Narmada 79 mm and Radhanpur in Patan district 76 mm. Nana Ponda in Valsad also received 76 mm of rainfall.

Umargam in Valsad recorded 70 mm, Kaprada 65 mm and Valsad taluka 64 mm of rainfall. A total of 63 mm of rainfall was recorded in Savarkundla of Amreli, 59 mm in Khergam of Navsari, 53 mm in Chikda of Narmada and 52 mm in Dolvan of Tapi.

A total of 51 mm of rainfall was recorded in Gandevi of Navsari, 49 mm each in Ukai of Tapi and Dharampur of Valsad, 48 mm in Dang district and 45 mm in Navsari. A total of 43 mm of rainfall was recorded in Rah of Vav-Tharad district, 39 mm in Bhabhar and 39 mm in Nandod of Narmada.

Apart from this, 38 mm each was recorded in Bardoli and Ambika in Surat, 35 mm in Naswadi in Chhotaudepur, 35 mm in Suigam in Vav-Tharad, 35 mm in Palsana in Surat, and 35 mm each in Jalalpore and Chikhli in Navsari.

Light to moderate rainfall was also recorded in other areas of the state. A total of 34 mm was recorded in Talod in Sabarkantha, 34 mm in Waghai in Dang, 33 mm in Poshina in Sabarkantha, 32 mm in Choryasi in Surat and 29 mm in Valod in Tapi.

Only 2 mm of rainfall was recorded in Ahmedabad city during the day. Gandhinagar received 5 mm of rain, Bharuch 12 mm, Palitana 4 mm and Mendarda in Junagadh 2 mm.

According to the SEOC report, the heaviest rainfall during the day was concentrated in Surat, Valsad, Navsari, Tapi and Narmada districts of South Gujarat, while some areas of North and Central Gujarat also received light to moderate rain. DeshGujarat
