Forest Dept Debunks Fake Leopard Rescue Video, Continues Search in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Social Forestry Department has appealed to the public not to believe or circulate rumours after the leopard sighting in the Ghuma area, warning that several fake videos are being shared on social media, creating unnecessary panic.

According to an official press release, a leopard was captured on CCTV in the early hours of July 20 near Sharandeep Society in Ghuma. Following the sighting, a team from the Forest Department immediately reached the spot and launched an intensive search operation in the surrounding area.

The department has deployed cages to safely capture the animal, while a team of veterinary doctors, trained rescuers, and more than 20 forest guards and foresters, equipped with the necessary rescue gear, continue to monitor the area.

Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF), Ahmedabad, urged residents to remain calm and rely only on official updates. He said leopards are generally nocturnal and shy animals, and humans are not their natural prey. While there is no need to panic, people should remain vigilant and avoid venturing into isolated areas, especially during the evening and night.

The Forest Department said the search operation is continuing, and teams remain fully alert and prepared to respond if the leopard is spotted again.

The department also clarified that a video claiming to show a leopard being rescued from Chandkheda, which went viral on social media on Tuesday night, was fake. Officials said the clip was an old video from another state and had no connection with the current situation in Ahmedabad.

The Social Forestry Department has urged citizens not to share unverified content or rumours and to rely only on information issued through official channels. DeshGujarat
