Dholera Village Cut Off After Bhogavo River Swells; NDRF Leads Rescue Operation

Ahmedabad: Just as large-scale rescue operations in flood-hit Dholka, Bavla, and Viramgam concluded, another part of Ahmedabad district has been hit by rising floodwaters. Vanitalav Bhal village in Dholera taluka has been cut off from surrounding areas after the Bhogavo River overflowed following heavy rainfall, leaving the village virtually marooned.

According to Ahmedabad Rural Superintendent of Police Om Prakash Jat, continuous inflow of water from the upstream Bhogavo River has led to an island-like situation in the village. Police, along with the district administration and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), have launched rescue operations to safely evacuate stranded residents.

As a precautionary measure, authorities have closed the road connecting Vanitalav Bhal to Anandpur and Buranpur villages after it was submerged. Police teams are maintaining round-the-clock patrolling to prevent people from attempting to cross flooded stretches.

Officials have urged residents to avoid closed roads, stay away from rivers and waterlogged areas, and rely only on official updates while following instructions issued by the police and district administration.

The flooding in Dholera follows similar situations in Dholka, Bavla, and Viramgam, where overflowing rivers and runoff from North Gujarat inundated several areas over the past few days.

Since July 23, flooding across Ahmedabad district has affected around 10,000 people. More than 2,400 people received assistance at Gallops Industrial Park in the Bavla-Changodar area, including nearly 1,000 who were rescued and another 1,400 were shifted to safer locations. More than 400 people were also rescued from Dholka town and nearby villages.

Meanwhile, traffic on the Ahmedabad-Rajkot National Highway (NH-47) and the Ahmedabad-Viramgam State Highway (SH-17), which had remained closed due to flooding, resumed after water levels receded over the weekend. DeshGujarat
