Gujarat Weather: Light Rain Likely for Next 7 Days, No Heavy Rain Forecast by IMD
August 18, 2026
Ahmedabad: With monsoon activity weakening across Gujarat, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall at several places over the next seven days till August 24, but ruled out the possibility of heavy to very heavy rain during the period.
According to the Meteorological Department, four weather systems are currently active over Gujarat and adjoining areas. However, their intensity remains weak, limiting the possibility of a major spell of rainfall across the state.
During the next 7 days till August 24, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely at a few places across parts of North Gujarat and at several places in South Gujarat. Saurashtra-Kutch is likely to see isolated rainfall.
Overall, the Meteorological Department has indicated that no major rain spell is expected in Gujarat during the next seven days, despite the presence of four active weather systems.
The active systems include a cyclonic circulation, the monsoon trough, a depression and another trough over Gujarat and neighbouring areas. An IMD official said the systems are currently showing low activity and are unlikely to produce heavy rainfall in the state.
Meteorological Department Director Dr A. K. Das said the overall weather is expected to remain normal, with light to moderate rainfall at isolated or scattered places.
Rainfall 1% below normal
Gujarat has recorded an average of 510.5 mm of rainfall so far this monsoon season, against the normal rainfall of 518 mm for this period. The state has therefore received around 1% less rainfall than normal. DeshGujarat
