Man Abuses, Threatens AMC Employee With Knife Over ‘Pet’ Dog Impounding

Ahmedabad: A man allegedly abused and threatened an Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) employee with a knife after civic staff impounded his unregistered pet dog in Sarkhej on Monday.

According to a complaint filed with Sarkhej police, Nitin Solanki, 45, is posted with the AMC’s Cattle Nuisance Control Department (CNCD) in Jamalpur. The team conducts dog-catching, vaccination and sterilisation drives under the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules, 2023.

Around 1.30pm, the team caught a dog and was placing it in an AMC vehicle when a man approached, claiming it was his pet. Solanki asked him to produce the dog’s registration documents, but the man allegedly admitted that the dog was unregistered.

The team then took the dog to the ABC centre in Behrampura. While Solanki, fellow sanitary sub-inspector Alpesh Prajapati and driver Ishaq Saiyed were travelling towards the centre, the accused allegedly intercepted their vehicle near Amber Tower on a scooter.

The man allegedly questioned the team over taking away his dog, abused Solanki and pulled out a knife, threatening him. Saiyed, who was travelling behind the AMC vehicle, alerted the police control room.

The civic employees later went to Sarkhej police station, where Solanki lodged a complaint alleging obstruction of his official duties, criminal intimidation, abuse and violation of a public notification.

Sarkhej police have registered a case and launched an investigation. DeshGujarat
