September 11, 2026
Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has launched a unique initiative to encourage citizens to segregate and properly dispose of plastic waste by offering Ganesha idols made from cow dung in exchange for plastic waste collected from their homes.
Under the initiative, the first 100 citizens in each of Ahmedabad’s seven zones who submit clean and segregated plastic waste at designated AMC locations will receive a cow dung-made Ganesha idol. The distribution will be held from September 11 to 14, on a first-come, first-served basis.
The initiative has been launched by the AMC’s Solid Waste Management Department as part of its efforts to reduce plastic pollution and promote awareness about waste segregation, recycling and responsible disposal.
Citizens can submit the plastic waste collected from their homes at the designated distribution centres in their respective zones and collect the Ganesha idol. Distribution will be held daily from 11 am to 6 pm, including Saturday and Sunday.
The designated locations are:
Central Zone: Fifth floor, old building, Sardar Patel Bhavan, Municipal Corporation, Danapith.
North-West Zone: Second floor, Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Bhavan, Judges Bungalow Road, Bodakdev.
North Zone: Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan, Memco Crossroads, Naroda Road.
South-West Zone: Third floor, Shri Tushar Deshmukh Bhavan, near Shalby Hospital, Karnavati Club Road.

West Zone: Vadaj Hindi School No. 1 and 2, Old Vadaj village, near Ramdevpir Temple.
South Zone: Third floor, Shyamaprasad Mukherjee Bhavan, Rambag, Maninagar.
The campaign also promotes the messages of ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ and ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’, while linking waste management with the Ganesh festival.
