Gujarat Farmer Registry crosses 63.35 lakh registrations: Govt

Gandhinagar: More than 63.35 lakh farmers in Gujarat have registered on the state’s Farmer Registry, a digital initiative aimed at creating a verified identity for farmers and integrating their land records with government agricultural schemes and services, the Gujarat government said today.

The registry is being implemented as part of the Centre’s Digital Agriculture Mission (DAM), which seeks to build a digital ecosystem for the agriculture sector.

“With more than 63.35 lakh farmers already registered in Gujarat, the state is continuing the process of registration and integration of farmers’ land records into the digital system. The system links a farmer’s Aadhaar-based identity with land records, enabling eligible farmers to receive a Unique Farmer ID and facilitating easier, faster and more transparent access to a range of government agricultural schemes and services,” Dr Jayanti S. Ravi, Additional Chief Secretary, Revenue Department, said.

Dr Ravi added that the initiative was not merely a registration exercise but was aimed at changing the way farmers access government schemes and agricultural services.

One digital identity for multiple services

Agriculture Minister Jitubhai Vaghani said the registry is intended to reduce the need for farmers to repeatedly submit and verify the same personal and land-related documents while applying for different government schemes.

“Once registered & approved, a farmer’s identity and land records are digitally integrated, creating a trusted digital profile. This streamlines farmer applications, simplifies beneficiary identification and verification, and enhances transparency, efficiency, and accuracy in the delivery of government assistance,” Vaghani said.

The system is also expected to reduce duplication in beneficiary records and help government agencies identify and verify eligible beneficiaries more efficiently.

The Farmer ID could eventually serve as a common digital identity through which farmers can access multiple agricultural services.

How farmers can register

Farmers can register through the Gujarat Farmer Registry portal using Aadhaar authentication. Once the farmer’s identity and land details are verified, the Unique Farmer ID is generated and linked to the verified land records.

The registration process can be completed through a mobile phone or with assistance from government-supported service centres.

Farmers can subsequently view their registered details and linked land records online. If a land survey number is missed during registration, it can be added later through the Update Farmer Request (UFR) facility.

Registration assistance is also available through Village Level Entrepreneurs (VCEs) at Gram Panchayat offices, Gram Sevaks and Common Service Centres (CSCs).

Potential benefits across schemes

The Farmer Registry is expected to facilitate beneficiary identification and verification for several agricultural schemes and services, including PM-KISAN, government procurement under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) and Minimum Support Price (MSP) mechanisms, Kisan Credit Card (KCC), agricultural credit and various subsidy and assistance programmes.

The digital database could also be integrated with agricultural input services, procurement systems and other digital farming platforms.

Over time, the integration of farmer, land and crop data could support more targeted government assistance and potentially enable digital advisories and technology-driven farm decision-support services.

The broader objective is to create a farmer-centric digital ecosystem in which verified farmer identity, land records and agricultural information can be used across multiple government services, reducing the need for repeated documentation and verification.
