Makarba Railway Overbridge built at Rs 98.60 crore to open to public on Sept 24

Ahmedabad: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will inaugurate the Makarba Railway Overbridge (ROB) on Thursday, September 24, providing a new four-lane road link between Makarba, Vejalpur, Corporate Road and S.G. Highway.

Built at an estimated cost of Rs 98.60 crore, the overbridge has been constructed at Level Crossing (LC)-24 on the Ahmedabad-Botad railway line, near the Torrent Power office in Makarba. The bridge will be opened to the public following its inauguration.

The 636.9-metre-long four-lane ROB has been constructed on a 40-metre-wide road connecting Torrent Power Makarba in Vejalpur with Corporate Road and S.G. Highway. The bridge has a total width of 16.4 metres, including a 15.5-metre-wide carriageway designed to accommodate heavy traffic.

The project is aimed at improving connectivity between Makarba, Vejalpur, Corporate Road and S.G. Highway and easing congestion caused by frequent closures of the railway crossing.

Officials said the bridge is expected to benefit around one lakh residents in the surrounding areas. It will eliminate the need for motorists to wait for trains to pass at the railway crossing, helping reduce traffic congestion, travel time and fuel consumption caused by prolonged vehicle idling.

Construction of the Makarba ROB began on September 30, 2022, and the project was originally scheduled to be completed by November 30, 2024. However, the project was delayed by nearly two years and is now scheduled to be inaugurated and opened to the public on September 24, 2026. DeshGujarat
