October 04, 2026
Kheda, October 4, 2026: Ahmedabad Rural Police and Western Railway Government Railway Police (GRP) have solved the gold robbery reported at Kheda Railway Station within hours, arresting all four accused and recovering the entire stolen property.
Police recovered 2.90 kg of gold valued at approximately ₹4 crore, along with the two cars allegedly used in the crime—a Tata Tiago and a Maruti Baleno. The recovery represents 100% of the stolen gold.
The robbery took place at around 5 pm at Kheda Railway Station. The victim pursued the suspects and managed to photograph their vehicle, providing police with an important lead. Kheda GRP examined CCTV footage and alerted the State Control Room about the suspicious Tata Tiago and its occupants.
Ahmedabad Rural Police received the information at around 7.30 pm and immediately began mapping the suspected escape route. Based on the vehicle registration details and mobile Subscriber Detail Record (SDR) information, investigators identified a possible route towards Banaskantha.
LCB Head Constable Narendrasinh, using information from his network of informants, located the Tata Tiago. Police subsequently found that a numberless Maruti Baleno was following the Tiago.
Suspecting that the vehicles were heading towards Sachana and Viramgam, teams from the Local Crime Branch and Viramgam Town Police established roadblocks.
Before the Baleno could enter Viramgam town, LCB personnel and Viramgam Town Police blocked the road using a truck and other vehicles and apprehended one of the suspects. During questioning, police learned that three other accused had fled ahead in the Tiago with the stolen gold.
Police then used information obtained from the arrested suspect to track down the Tiago. Teams led by PI S.A. Gadhvi and PI Paresha Jani, along with Viramgam Town Police and the LCB, reached the location and surrounded the vehicle.
Police officer dragged for 500 metres
The accused allegedly attempted to escape after ramming the Tiago into a police vehicle. As they tried to reverse and flee, PI S.A. Gadhvi ran towards the moving vehicle and grabbed its door.
The officer was dragged for approximately 500 metres while holding onto the vehicle. He subsequently managed to open the door, gain control of the steering wheel and pull the handbrake, bringing the car to a halt.
Other police personnel immediately moved in and arrested the accused inside the vehicle.
Another accused attempted to escape into nearby fields. Police cordoned off the area and subsequently apprehended him.
The stolen gold, weighing approximately 2.90 kg and valued at around ₹4 crore, was found concealed inside the seat covers of the Baleno. Police also seized both vehicles used in the alleged robbery.
The operation involved personnel from Western Railway Police and Ahmedabad Rural Police, including PI Raghu Karmatiya, PI S.A. Gadhvi, PI Paresha Jani and teams from the LCB and Viramgam Town Police.
Police said further investigation into the robbery and the involvement of the accused is underway.
Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi congratulated the police teams for recovering the entire stolen property and apprehending all four accused within hours of the incident.
