Ahmedabad Metro Phase 2A: Project details

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved Phase 2A of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project on June 10, 2026. The project envisages an approximately 6-km corridor comprising five stations, four elevated and one underground, at a total completion cost of ₹2,169.04 crore, including interest during construction.

The corridor is expected to strengthen connectivity between key residential and commercial areas and the airport while integrating with the existing Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar metro network. Once operational, it will take the combined operational metro rail network in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar to 77.63 km.

The expansion is expected to offer commuters an alternative to road transport, potentially easing traffic congestion and reducing travel times while improving access to the airport. Improved connectivity could also support commercial activity and tourism around the new stations.

The project is expected to generate employment for around 2,000 people during peak construction activity. An estimated 500 people are likely to be employed in the system’s operation and maintenance once it becomes operational. DeshGujarat
