AMC to Widen Road Near Kalupur Railway Station; 17 Properties to Be Removed

Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has initiated road-widening measures and action to remove encroachments around Kalupur Railway Station to improve passenger accessibility and ease traffic congestion amid the ongoing redevelopment of the station.

As part of the plan, the civic body has proposed widening the existing 18-metre-wide road from Sarangpur Circle to the DCP Zone-3 Office to 30 metres. AMC has issued a public notice under Section 210 of the Gujarat Provincial Municipal Corporations Act (GPMC Act), inviting objections and suggestions from the public regarding the proposed road alignment.

The proposed widening is expected to affect approximately 17 properties, while 2,965 square metres of land will be incorporated into the existing road after completion of the prescribed legal procedures.

The move comes as the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) is redeveloping Kalupur Railway Station into a modern facility equipped with state-of-the-art amenities. Once completed, the redeveloped station is expected to handle approximately 3.12 lakh passengers daily.

To accommodate the anticipated increase in passenger movement and ensure smoother traffic flow, AMC has initiated the process of widening key roads connecting to the railway station.

Separately, the civic body has issued notices to shopkeepers operating along the road connecting Sarangpur Circle to Rozi Cinema, directing them to hand over possession of their premises to the Corporation. The shops were originally allotted by AMC on a rental and permit basis.

After completing the required legal and administrative procedures, AMC plans to remove the obstructions in the area and make the widened road available for public use.

The measures are expected to improve connectivity to and from Kalupur Railway Station, facilitate passenger movement and reduce traffic congestion in the surrounding areas, complementing the ongoing station redevelopment project. DeshGujarat
