AMC Seizes 40,000 Kg of Suspected Substandard Mava Ahead of Diwali

Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) Food Department has seized around 40,000 kg of suspected substandard mava (milk solids) from a cold storage facility in the Gomtipur area ahead of Diwali. The seized stock reportedly belongs to Radhika Food Products, a company that manufactures sweets, and did not bear expiry dates or batch numbers, officials said.

The department has launched an investigation to determine whether the seized mava is fit for human consumption. Officials said the stock was used to prepare Indian desserts and Rajwadi sweets.

The inspection was part of a series of checks being conducted by the Food Department ahead of Diwali to ensure food safety during the festive season. Teams also inspected other locations and collected samples of sweets and farsan (savoury snacks) for testing.

Dr Tejas Shah, an official with the AMC Food Department, said traders in Gomtipur store mava in cold storage facilities for use in sweet-making. According to him, around 15 to 20 traders store more than 1 lakh kg of mava at these facilities.

Shah said the department was inspecting such facilities as part of its efforts to monitor food quality ahead of the festival. Further action will depend on the findings of the investigation and the test results. DeshGujarat
