Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay’s Family Invited to ‘Anandamath’ Play at Ekta Nagar

Ekta Nagar: Members of the family of renowned Bengali novelist Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, the author of the iconic novel Anandamath, have been specially invited to attend a grand theatrical presentation of the literary work at Ekta Nagar in Gujarat’s Kevadia on October 30, marking Rashtriya Ekta Diwas.

The family members are fifth-generation descendants of the celebrated author, whose novel Anandamath features Vande Mataram, which later became India’s national song. Their presence at the theatrical presentation will add significance to the event, which seeks to celebrate the country’s literary heritage, patriotic spirit and the legacy of India’s freedom struggle.

The production will be staged by the National School of Drama (NSD) Repertory at Dam View Point-1 in Ekta Nagar, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The event is being organised as part of the celebrations marking the 151st birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, observed as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, and commemorating 150 years of Vande Mataram.

The approximately 90-minute production will feature around 300 artists performing on a massive 100-by-100-foot stage. Through dramatic storytelling, music and stagecraft, the presentation will bring to life the themes of patriotism, sacrifice, national dedication and the spirit of freedom embodied in Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay’s celebrated work.

The production’s dramatisation, music, design and direction are being handled by Chittaranjan Tripathy, while Asif Ali Haider has undertaken the dramatic adaptation.

The staging aims to pay tribute to India’s freedom fighters while highlighting the enduring influence of Anandamath and its iconic song Vande Mataram on the country’s national consciousness. DeshGujarat
