No Excessive Homework During Diwali Vacation: Ahmedabad DEO to Schools
October 30, 2026
Ahmedabad: In a student-friendly move ahead of the Diwali vacation, the Ahmedabad City District Education Officer (DEO) has directed all government, grant-in-aid and non-grant-in-aid primary, secondary and higher secondary schools to assign minimal holiday homework and promote joyful, activity-based learning.
In a circular issued by DEO Rohit Chaudhari, schools have been advised to avoid overburdening students with excessive written assignments, lengthy projects, multiple worksheets and repetitive writing exercises during the vacation.
The guidelines emphasise that holidays should provide students with an opportunity to spend quality time with their families, pursue personal interests and develop essential life skills.
Schools have also been instructed to avoid assigning activities that require expensive materials, mandatory online participation or paid applications, considering the varied socioeconomic backgrounds of students.
Encouraging learning beyond textbooks, the DEO has recommended activities such as reading, drawing, storytelling, sports and experiential learning. The advisory also urges students to reduce unnecessary mobile phone use, social media engagement and online gaming, while encouraging outdoor games, reading, yoga and physical exercise. DeshGujarat
