AMC Seals Saurashtra Bhajiya & Ganthiya Over Excessive TPC Levels in Frying Oil

Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has sealed two food establishments ahead of Diwali for violating food safety and hygiene regulations, including the use of frying oil with excessive Total Polar Compounds (TPC) levels at Saurashtra Bhajiya & Ganthiya.

The Health and Food Department sealed Gayatri Chavana Mart, opposite Ganj Bazar in Madhupura, and Saurashtra Bhajiya & Ganthiya, at Gopal Complex near Ujala Circle in Sarkhej, during inspections aimed at ensuring food safety amid increased festive demand for sweets and farsan.

At Saurashtra Bhajiya & Ganthiya, officials found TPC levels in frying oil exceeding the permissible limit of 25%. The establishment was also operating without a mandatory Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licence or registration and had not entered into an agreement with an authorised agency for used cooking oil disposal. Workers were found not wearing protective gear, including caps, aprons, masks and gloves, in violation of hygiene requirements.

At Gayatri Chavana Mart, officials found the business operating without an FSSAI licence or registration. Workers were also not following prescribed hygiene and sanitation standards under Schedule 4 of FSSAI regulations.

The AMC said inspections of food production, storage and sale establishments would continue throughout the Diwali festive season, with strict action, including fines and sealing, against businesses violating food safety regulations. DeshGujarat
