Works for some Smart City projects in Ahmedabad kick off

Gujarat Chief Minister today laid stone for 60 MLD ‘Jal Vihar’sewage treatment plant at Vadaj area of Ahmedabad city. She also performed ‘Bhoomi Pujan’ for construction of 400-unit housing scheme which is part of the project for redevelopment of Vadaj slum under central government’s Smart City scheme.

Jal Vihar plant is going to come up at a cost of Rs 83.34 crore. Water treated from this plant will be used for gardening developed in river bank area and to maintain the level of water in river. Decentralized plant at this place will reduce load of sewage flow in entire sewage network and offer better management. This plant will treat sewage generated in areas like Sabarmati central jail, Juna Vadaj, Ranip, Chandrabhaga and Bakramandi that consist 5.25 lakh population.

Under Smart City Scheme’s area development plan, as part of the slum rehabilitation policy 2013, pucca houses will be built replacing about 7,235 slum units in about 18.5 hectare area of Ramapir Tekra.

The Chief Minister also launched programme for skill enhancement of 1500 operators who work in effluent treatment plants.

She launched various publications of Gujarat Pollution Control Board(GPCB) and Consolidated Consent and Authorization online service.

The Chief Minister witnessed signing of seven Memorandums of Understanding(MoUs) for reuse of industrial waste as fuel in cement industry.

Chief Minister launched GEER Foundation’s documentary film-CD and distributed prizes to winners of ‘Van Ki Baat’ photography competition.
