Coast Guard chopper rescue 26 from flooded village in Valsad, NDRF deployed

Valsad: Coast Guards rescued 26 people by helicopter from a village in heavily rain hit Valsad district today while a team of NDRF has also been deployed in the district which has seen an average 245 mm (over nine inches) of rain in last 24 hours alone.

Assistant collector of Valsad Ms Shipra Aagre today said that several villages across the district including over half a dozen in Valsad taluka alone had been flooded owing to the overnight rain.

’26 people of Bhagda Khurd village were rescued by Coastguards in their helicopter. A team of NDRF which was on standby in Surat has also arrived in the district has been deployed in four localities in as many sub teams,’ the assistant collector said.

Owing to incessant rain overnight, Dharmpur taluka has seen a downpour of 348mm (around 14 inches), the maximum taluka-wise during last 24 hours which has seen various degrees of rains in 108 talukas of 22 district. Pardi (315 mm), Vapi (314mm) and Kaprada (252mm) in Valsad have also seen very heavy downpour. Dangs (district average 104 mm) and Navsari (96 mm) have also seen heavy rains.

Rail and road traffic have also been affected owing to water logging and soil erosion. However the administration claimed that the situation was normalizing as the water was fast receding.
With the latest spell of rains the state average has reached 37.55 %.
