Raees promotion tragedy: Gujarat High Court stays railway police summon to Shah Rukh Khan

Ahmedabad: Gujarat High Court today stayed the summon issued by Railway police of Vadodara asking for the personal appearance of actor Shahrukh Khan in connection with inquiry of the stampede like incident on Vadodara station in the night of January 23 in which one person had died.

The incident had taken place when the actor was traveling in a train from Mumbai to Delhi for promotion of his film Raees depicting him as an underworld don reportedly an screen-image of notorious bootlegger of Ahmedabad Abdul Lateef who was killed in police enctounter during eighties.

The court of Justice J B Pardiwala stayed the summon which asked the actor to appear before the railway police in Vadodara to record his statement within 7 days from its reception.

Counsel of Shahrukh Mihir Thakore in his plea said that the rail police in Vadodara has not jurisdiction to issue such summon.

The court would hear the matter in detail on a later date.

One Farid Khan, a local leader, had died of heart attack triggered by the stampede like situation when the train carrying Shahrukh left Vadodara station that fateful night. He had reportedly gone to the railway station to have a glimpse of Shahrukh and meet his journalist sister traveling in the same train.
