Rajkot: Reacting to a question asked by media persons on speculations that two former Congress Lok Sabha MPs in Gujarat Kunvarji Bavalia and Somabhai Patel are joining BJP in presence of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in Botad function on 17 April, Gujarat Chief Minister today said, “I don’t know whether they are joining BJP or not, but atmosphere is such that Congress is sinking ship in this country and it is finish, and therefore such movement is likely and obvious(outcome of it).”
Meanwhile Kunvarji Bavalia has issued a statement that he is not going to join BJP when Congress party has assigned him important responsibility. It is believed that Kuvarjibhai has issued this statement after Congress leadership spoke to him following news reports on his possible induction to BJP.
It should be mentioned that both Somabhai and Kuvarjibhai belong to Koli community which dominates many constituencies in Gujarat, particularly in Saurashtra region. Kuvarjibhai has been executive president of Gujarat Congress in the past while Somabhai was in BJP previously but left the party to join Congress. Both have lost last elections that they fought.
