May 07, 2017
Ahmedabad: Around 90 thousand aspirants from Gujarat today appeared for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) held for admission in Medical and Dental colleges at centers set up across seven cities across the state.
Over all 11.35 lakh students took the test organized by Central Board for Secondary Examinations (CBSE) in 104 cities across the country against around 8 lakh of last year.
The exam went off peacefully in Gujarat amid tight security arrangements and rules to foil any attempt of malpractice. As per the guidelines wearing full sleeve shirt was not allowed for the examinees along with carrying electronic gadgets and other things including pen. Owing to this the sleeves of dresses of many aspirants including girls were removed at some centers including in Surat. The guardians of some of the girl students objected to it but later agreed when reminded about the rules.
In Ahmedabad, over 18000 students took the test at more than a dozen centers. Apart from this largest city of Gujarat, the centers for NEET test were also in Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Gandhinagar, Anand and Bhavnagar. The last three cities were included in the list of cities with NEET centers this year only. Of the around 90000 students who appeared for the NEET in Gujarat around 70000 were from Gujarat Board while remaining around 20000 were from CBSE, ICSE and others.
The test of 3 hours duration (from 1000 am to 0100 pm ) consisted of one paper containing 180 objective type questions (four options with single correct answer) from Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Botany and Zoology) to be answered on the specially designed machine-gradable sheet using ball point pen provided by CBSE at examination centres. The sealed test-booklets were given to candidates 15 minutes before the commencement of the test. The results to be declared on June 8 will be used for the admission in medical, dental, AYUSH and veterinary colleges across the country.
