Gujarat govt signs 4 MoUs at 52nd AfDB Annual Meetings 2017 in Gandhinagar

Gandhinagar: Today, 4 MoU were signed by Government of Gujarat in the presence of Chief Minister Shri Vijay Rupani at session on ‘Africa – India Cooperation on Agriculture: Partnership for Green Revolution’ at the ongoing Annual Meetings 2017, African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar.

The first MoU was signed between Government of Gujarat and Republic of Togo for cooperation in the area of infrastructure, mining, renewable energy and power generation. The second MoU was signed with Association of Ghana Industries for cooperation renewable energy, power and agriculture. The third MoU was signed with Limpopo Agricola from Mozambique on agriculture and agro processing. The fourth MoU was signed with Fidana Limited in the area of technology, Automobile and Education.

Minister of State for Finance Shri Santosh Kumar Gangwar along with Shri Shobhana K Pattanayak, Secretary, Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers Welfare also attended the session.

Shri Gangwar said that India being the only country in Asia chosen for the initiative ‘One World, No Hunger’ will address areas such as food and nutrition security, promotion of new steps, protection and sustainable use of natural resources in rural areas and promotion of responsible land use and access to land.

India’s focus on Africa, therefore, could easily gel with the new steps that would form part of the overall list of steps, which would help accelerate Africa’s progress in the agriculture sector towards becoming the ‘Food Bowl of the World’ added Shri Gangwar.

Shri Shobhana K. Pattanayak said that Africa can actually feed the rest of the world. Many UN organizations have repeatedly talked about Global Food Security and Africa has all the potential to supply food to the rest of the world. India has signed 13 MoUs with 11 countries of Africa in agriculture sector and MoUs have also been signed with 3 Africa countries in the field animal husbandry and dairy farming he added.
