Ahmedabad: Even as Gujarat is creating new records of recruitment in armed forces in recent times, thousands of candidates today thronged the latest army recruitment rally at Vallabh Vidyanagar in central Gujarat, which is the largest ever in the state as per number of participants.

Deputy Director General (Recruiting) Brigadier Dinesh Chadhha was himself present at the venue (Shastri Maidan) on day one of the rally which was to be concluded on July 16. Candidates from 21 districts of Gujarat shall be appearing for selection in the ongoing rally.

A record number of candidates – 71039 in total, have registered online for this rally making it a record thus far for Gujarat state.

On day one candidates from adjoining union territory of Daman and Dangs, Mahisagar and Surat districts underwent selection process.

Brigadier Chadhha while talking to mediapersons at the venue today said that “the thrust has been to achieve 100% transparency in the selection process”. The DDG also thanked the media fraternity for their continued support in disseminating information about the rally to the youth of Gujarat who have registered for selection in record numbers this time. Surpassing the earlier record at the last Rally in Himmatnagar in December 2016 by a big margin.

Notably, Gujarat has seen a consistent increase in numbers of participants and recruited per rally since 2014. As per official data, the numbers that averaged around 300 per rally for Army Recruitment Office Jamnagar and around 400 per rally for Army Recruitment Office Ahmedabad till 2013-14, have seen a steady growth. The rallies conducted in the year 2016-17 by Army Recruitment Office Jamnagar saw 492 whilst the one by Army Recruitment Office Ahmedabad conducted at Himmatnagar in December 2016 saw a record shattering total of 786 selections. Looking at the record number of participants at VV Nagar rally the number of selection this time around is also likely to create a new record.
