Ahmedabad: After nine days of colorful Navratri, Gujarat is today celebrating Vijayadashmi in its own typical style.

Fafda and Jalebi, a popular snacks item, which is traditionally almost compulsorily eaten by Gujaratis on Vijyadashmi is on sale every where and even long queues were seen on the special counters since early morning.

The second main feature of Vijayadashmi in Gujarat was taking delivery of new vehicles or purchasing them. Today a big rush is also visible across all the major auto show rooms in Ahmedabad and elsewhere.

Shashtra Puja or Aayudh Puja has also been organized at many places especially by the people of Rajput community and erstwhile royal families.

CM Vijay Rupani also participated in such a puja in his official residence in capital Gandhingar along with wife Anjaliben. He later said that he had furthered the tradition started by the then CM Narendra Modi during whose regime it was first held in the CM residence. Apart from traditional weapons like swords, modern arms of the security staff of the CM were also worshiped during the event.

For Fafda Jalebi in Ahmedabad city people were seen queuing up even from a little past midnight at places like Ankur crossing. Many of them clad in Garba dresses they had adorned for the last Norta. Big sweet shops like Rasranjan and others had also made special counters for sale of fafda Jalebi and remained opened even the whole night last night. In other cities like Vadodara, Rajkot, Surat, Jamnagar, Junagadh also such scene was visible.

Meanwhile, the manager of a big car show room situated on the SG highway in Ahmedabad said that they have seen a rise in delivery order and sale by manifold in comparison to the normal day. The two wheeler dealers have also seen a similar surge. ‘Many people who had paid us in the past and got the vehicles financed had told us to deliver it to them today on Vijayadashmi, which is deemed a very auspicious day for a new beginning,’ a dealer said.

Meanwhile, in the evening today the effigies, some of it giant ones, of Ravana, his brother Kumbhkarna and son Meghnad would be burnt across the state to celebrate the festival which also symbolizes win of good over evil.
