PAAS hooligans joined by Congress create ruckus at BJP event and later at Varachha Police Station in Surat

Surat: PAAS hooligans joined by Congress leaders, candidate and cadres created ruckus outside Patidar populated Varachha area police station in Surat late in the evening on Thursday. Police detained Congress candidate Dhiru Gajera and around half a dozen others for illegal assembly and creating ruckus in police station. Police Commissioner Satish Sharma said they would be made free when situation normalize.

Earlier in the evening, some PAAS hooligans on bikes came to opening function of BJP election office in Karanj area and chanted slogans in order to disturb the function. It should be mentioned that another BJP election office in Surat was attacked by PAAS hooligans two days ago. Police used moderate force to flush out PAAS hooligans from outside the BJP office. Police seized some of bikes used by PAAS miscreants.

Seeking release of bikes and also to protest the light force used by police, PAAS through social media messages mobilized a crowd outside Varachha police station and staged protest. Congress candidate whose ticket was finalized thanks to PAAS pressure also rushed to the police station along with Congress Councillors and cadres. Some PAAS youths were seen in video footage arguing in insulting ways with police men in uniform. However the cops didn’t lose their cool in reaction.

Dhiru Gajera and others were detained and taken to other police premises. Commissioner Satish Sharma said those detained will be made free soon. He clarified that police had not used lathicharge. Sharma said the model code of conduct is imposed by election commission and none should gherao police station or disturb political functions of rival party. Reacting to threat issued by PAAS that police station would be torched in protest, Sharma said miscreant involving in such act will face police action.

Meanwhile extra police force was deployed in Patels populated sensitive areas of Surat and some State Transport buses were diverted to non-Patel area routes.
