Gujarat govt – Swedish home furnishing giant IKEA sign MoU

Gandhinagar: Gujarat government today said that Swedish home furnishing company IKEA is going to open home furnishing stores in Gujarat. IKEA will select the city of Ahmedabad as ‘first focus city’.
Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) for this was signed between the Gujarat govt official Manojkumar Das and IKEA India’s property head David McCausland in presence of Chief Minister Vijay Rupani in capital Gandhinagar. IKEA has signed similarly MoUs with the governments of Haryana, Karnataka, Telangana and Maharashtra.
According to Manojkumar Das who is principal secretary of Industry department in Gujarat government, IKEA’s entry will result into Rs Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000 crore investment in Gujarat in addition to direct employment to 2,000 and indirect employment to 3,000 persons.
Manufacturing in home furnishing sector, knowledge/skill transfer, skill development in retail sector will boost the furnishing retail sector in Gujarat and bring economic progress. The state government has given full assurance for its cooperation for timely and quick implementation of this project, Manojkumar Das said.
