New Delhi: The Election Commission of India(ECI) today announced the date of assembly by-election of Jasdan seat of Rajkot district. Polling for Jasdan seat by-poll will take place on December 20.

Polling will take place using EVMs and VVPATs in all the polling station. Model code of conduct has been made effective with immediate effect.

Jasdan seat was won by Congress candidate Kunvarjibhai Bavalia last year in general election of assembly. Kunvarjibhai later in July this year resigned from his party and also from the post of MLA and joined BJP. He took oath as cabinet minister. With this development, by-poll on this seat was certain in the period of six months from July 3.

Jasdan is Koli community dominated area. Kunvarjibhai belongs to this community. Jasdan has also significant number of Patel voters.
