Procurement of groundnut at MSP starts in Gujarat from today, strict measures to check irregularity

Gandhinagar: The procurement of groundnut for 2018-19 season at Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs 5000 per quintal ie 100kg (Rs 1000 per mun or 20kg) started this morning.
CM Vijay Rupani said that the groundnut procurement in ‘foolproof manner’ has started and it is being done on 122 centers (APMC yards) across the state. He said that as per the estimates around 4 lakh tonne of groundnut would be procured this year.
Notably, queues of farmers were seen since early morning even before the commencement of procurement at several centers at 8 am today.
In Jamnagar, Agriculture minister R C Faldu said that all precautions were being taken in the procurement in the wake of irregularities of last year.
The procurement is being done under the eyes of video and cctv cameras. 3 samples of the groundnut is being taken before procurement. The one with more than 2% waste material won’t be procured. One farmer can sell a maximum of 2500 kg. The registration for the same was started from November 1.
The Food and Civil Supply Corporation is the state level agency for the procurement for which NAFED is the center level agency.
