Gandhinagar: Gujarat Chief Minister today visited the site of Statue of Unity complex on Sadhu Bet midstream Narmada River at Kevadia Colony and took round of the Tent City, Valley of Flowers, Wall of Unity, Museum and other facilities to explore the possibility of developing the complex as a world-class tourists centre.

He was accompanied by Chief Secretary J.N. Singh, Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd (SSNL) Chairman Rathore and other senior officers.

Rupani also previewed the preparations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurating the 3-day National Conference of Director-Generals of Police (DGP) to be held at the complex from December 20 to 22, 2018. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is also scheduled to attend.

He talked to trainee-guides at the reception lounge, intermingled with tourists from Gujarat, different states in India and abroad like New Zealand, USA, Canada, posed for photographed with them.

Rupani addressed senior officers on the occasion at the site, attended by Principal Secretary Water Resources and Panchayat A.K. Rakesh, SSNL Joint MD Sandip Kumar, District In-charge Secretary S.J. Haider, District Collector R.S. Ninama, DDO Jincy William, Narmada Rehabilitation Commissioner and Statue of Unity Administrator I.K. Patel, Tourism Commissioner Jenu Devan, among others.

He directed the district administration and departments concerned to augment the capacity at the site to cater to more footfalls. It has increased to nearly 30,000 daily during the Diwali holidays. He suggested increasing the number of buses from different places to the site, introducing Punjabi and South Indian cuisine at Food Courts, boating and selling artefacts.
