Overhead water tank fall slightly differently than as planned during demolition in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: Another dilapidated water tank in the city was today demolished as per the instructions of the AMC, however during the process an accident was reportedly averted as it did not collapse as planned and parts of its broken slabs also fell on a nearby house.

As the whole area was cordoned off, no casualty or injury took place.

The overhead water tank was demolished by the team of the Gujarat housing board in Vasantnagar area of Gota ward. Local Municipal Councillor Dinesh Desai said that the water tank was brought down after cordoning off the whole area. It collapsed in a manner slightly different from how it was planned. But no damage was done due to it.

Meanwhile the leader of opposition in the AMC Dinesh Sharma alleged that the way the tank was demolished showed the negligence on the part of the those involved in it.
AMC fire brigade team reached the spot to remove the debris of the tank from the blocked entrance of a nearby house.

Notably the AMC and other authorities were demolishing all the dilapidated tanks in the city after local BJP MP, party president and union home minister Amit Shah recently took the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) authorities to task over the issue.

There were a total of 191 overhead water tanks in the city of which 73 were not in use now. Out of the total 99 dilapidated old such tanks, 73 were not in use. Of these so far more than half have been demolished.
