Grey Wolf Breeding Centre at Sakkarbag Zoo in Junagadh

Junagadh: The number of wolves has reached 39 within 5 years at Indian Grey Wolf Breeding centre in Sakkarbaug Zoo, Junagadh.
Chief Veterinary Officer Dr Riyaz Kadivar informed that the breeding centre runs as per the guidelines of central zoo authority. Recently, five healthy baby wolves were born there as result of successful mating between a male wolf named Pratap and a female wolf named Jaini, he added.
The breeding centre was started in 2014-15 and initially there were only two female wolves. A male wolf named Pratap was brought there from Mysore zoo. The Government of India has included wolves in schedule-1 of Wildlife Protection Act considering a fall in their population.
