Gujarat Congress blames Ram Bhakts for attacks on Ram Navami processions

Ahmedabad: Gujarat Congress chief Jagdish Thakor has in a way through his statement blamed Ram bhakts to be responsible for the attacks on Ram Navmi processions, instead of the antisocial elements from other community.

Thakor today told media persons, “On the holy day of Ramnavmi, they go out with chanting the name of Rama. When a masjid or dargah comes on the way, they will remove the flag of that religion from the nearby electricity pole and install their flags instead of that. They will shout slogans against them and incite them. Then, the riots happen. It is said by the people, in the areas where riots occur, that several responsible persons ‘in power’ are stirring up these riots.”

Thakor apparently giving clean chit to attackers stated that whenever BJP govt fails, the incidents such as Himmatnagar and Khambhat take place.

It’s worth noting that nearly a dozen policemen nd participants of Ram Navami procession had got injuries and their vehicles too were burnt and damaged in Himmatnagar. The local court has sent 11 accused (all Muslims) to police custody till 4 pm on 16 April. In Khambhat, Ram Navami procession was so aggressively attacked that a 62-year old Ram bhakt Kanaiyalal Rana died of severe injuries. Local court has sent 9 accused (all Muslims) to police custody in this case.

Thakor in his media briefing stayed away from saying anything against anti-social elements from Muslim community, who are accused of fatal attack on Hindu religious procession, but blamed the receiving side, the victim side for what he claims, “provoking” the other community.

“Jagdish Thakor’s remark shows real character of Congress. The people of Gujarat, the Ram bhakts will never forgive, never forget this. In order to protect its vote-bank, now Congress blames Ram bhakts for violence. Congress has been like this always,” said Shraddha Rajput, Gujarat BJP media panelist, reacting to Congress chief’s remarks.
