Ram Navami procession attack row: Congress in Gujarat opposes bulldozing action in Khambhat

Ahmedabad: Congress party here has opposed the demolition of the illegal encroachments in Khambhat, the Central Gujarat town where Ram Navami procession of Hindus was attacked and a 62-year old Ram bhakt Kanaiyalal Rana was brutally killed.
Congress MLAs Gyasuddin Shaikh and Imran Khedavala today issued a statement informing that they have appealed to state revenue minister Rajendra Trivedi on phone call to stop the bulldozing action in Sakkarpura area of Khambhat.
The congress MLAs stated in the press note that the demolition started by the district collector with local police force, only based on the allegations without any legal procedure is unconstitutional and it should be stopped immediately.
The Congress MLA further stated in the note that they would not have any issue and accept the court’s order if the accused is declared convict and the demolition is started considering court’s order. They stated that it is mandatory to serve notice to the person associated with the property by the collector and administration before demolition.
The local administration with the help of Police removed bushes and encroachments near the mosque from where Ram Navami procession of Hindus was attacked and one participant of procession was killed. Police have arrested 11 accused in this case. The administration has ensured that the encroachments are illegally placed, before their removal.
It’s worth noting that in neighboring State Madhya Pradesh also Congress has opposed bulldozing act. Senior Madhya Pradesh Congress leader Digvijaya Singh has questioned the Madhya Pradesh Govt. for bulldozing the houses of alleged rioters. DeshGujarat
